GLTF2940FS Frigidaire Front Load Washer

This washer is just over a year old. It started turning off in the middle of the load. The display would also go out. After waiting about 15-20 minutes you could start the washer again.

I had to replace the control board to repair this washer.

The new MCU did the trick. The washer is working! My thanks to Repair-man and JWWebster for their help.

Here are some pics of the old MCU showing some electrical damage. From now on all my expensive electrical components will be used with decent quality surge suppression, etc. I mean, these things are as expensive as a HDTV, might as well give them appropriate protection.

My relatively new washer went up in smoke this evening. It was in the final spin cycle full of colors, and I noticed it was making a bit more noise than normal, and perhaps a little odd, but didn’t pay much attention. I started smelling burning rubber, and by the time I got to the machine (and the fire alarm was going off) and opened the laundry room door, smoke rolled out in clouds. The machine was still running, with 1 minute left on the timer. I shut it off using the “pause” button. unloaded the clothes into the dryer (at least they’re clean, i think) and unplugged the unit.
